Paris, 1897, we are in the middle of « La Belle Epoque », Paris is a boiling city and all of Parisâ high society is rubbing shoulders at the Charity Bazaar sale, the yearly event that takes place in a grand venue built entirely of wood.
Suddenly, a raging fire spreads throughout the building and ends up killing over 130 people, mostly women!
Three womenâs destinies are changed forever.
Saved by a courageous worker, naïve young aristocrat, Alice de Jeansin discovers the harsh realities of her social status. Her maid Rose, about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime, is instead disfigured and offered a very strange bargain. And for Aliceâs aunt, the beautiful Adrienne, the fire might just be the chance sheâs been waiting for. The chance to disappear and start over.
Paris, 1897. Spirits are high at the "Bazar de la Charité", a vast charity sales event attended by high society, when the building suddenly catches fire. Alice de Jeansin and her maidservant Rose are trapped in the blaze. In its aftermath, Adrienne de Lenverpre realizes she could have died inside.
Alice has to cope with the death of Rose and the cowardice of her fiancé Julien. Little does she know that against all odds, Rose has survived and been taken out of the hospital by Thomas' grandmother, Mrs. Huchon. Adrienne, waiting in hiding for her husband to bring their daughter back for her funeral, makes her first mistake.
Adrienne lets Camille know that she is alive and planning their escape. Alice decides to break off her engagement to Julien, but then learns that might drive her family into financial ruin. Meanwhile, Rose learns all about the secret plans of Mrs. Huchon.
Alice loses her virginity with Victor, and then learns he was responsible for the fire at the charity bazaar. Rose takes on the identity of Odette, helped by Thomas, who understands that his mother won't be coming back. Adrienne's plans to escape with her daughter are on shaky ground for lack of money.
Arrested by Hennion, Adrienne learns about her husband's dark past. Rose still refuses to have an abortion, which puts her and Mrs. Huchon in great danger of retribution from Henri de la Tremoille. Alice turns her back on Julien, determined to prove that Victor is innocent.
Rose pays a high price for her attempt to make it look like Henri de La Tremoille is the father of her child. Alice finds out that her father is going to be blamed for starting the fire at the charity bazaar, since he was the one who had the movie projector installed there. Adrienne investigates Eva's death, hoping to destroy her husband by revealing his crime.
Adrienne returns home with only one goal in mind: to convince her husband that she sincerely wants to make up and work things out. Henri de La Tremoille figures out that his "wife" had sex with him to try to legitimatize her bastard child. Alice risks everything to try to save Victor.
When Henri de La Tremoille catches Rose with Jean, the results are fatal. Alice, who has done everything she possibly could to try to save Victor from the guillotine, wallows in despair. Adrienne finds out that Hennion won't be showing up. Can she escape her husband's madness?
