For the last twenty years, life has been everything but peaceful for the Beaumonts. Catherine and Jacques look after their "wonderful family," a blended family living happily and cheerfully together, but things aren't always that easy! Three generations of characters take us on some pretty wacky adventures, sharing the laughter and tears of being a family today. First there are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Beaumont, and their friend Reine. Then come the kids - no shortage there!
The family is stunned: Manon and Jean-Philippe have finally succeeded in having a baby, but at birth they discover the child is black! Manon, accused of infidelity, sees her relationship blow to bits, and the whole family tries to pick up the pieces. But when it turns out the baby is really Jean-Philippe’s biological son, the family has a genetic mystery to solve.
Jacques, Catherine, Julien and Audrey go in search of the African branch of the family. In Senegal, they meet Jacques’ uncle and cousin, but the family reunion is disappointing: Jacques’ father left behind painful memories when he abandoned his family 80 years ago. Jacques tries to get to the bottom of the story.
After the family get-together in Portugal to celebrate the twins’ birthday, Catherine decides to extend her stay. But weeks go by, and filled with nostalgia, she ends up deciding to move to Lisbon for good. Jacques and the others don’t understand her decision. Will the family survive the separation?
Fred, victim of a scooter accident in Lisbon, has to face irreparable damage: she will never walk again. Living with her parents, she asks Carla and Nourredine to go back to France and live their lives. But Fred is slowly sinking into deep depression, and the family can’t figure out what to do to give her back her will to live.
